October 1-30, 2008. Donna and I had another good month overall. We picked up a load in Charlotte, NC on the 3rd, delivering to Frankfurt, IN. We then deadheaded to Brooks, KY, for a very nice paying T-Val load picking up on the 6th, going to Memphis, TN delivering on the 7th. As soon as we delivered we were dispatched on a load from Memphis, delivering the same day to MT. Vernon, IL.

We got lucky with a great load picking up on the 8th in Graham, KY delivering to Hollister, CA on the 10th. We made our delivery and deadheaded up to Sam and Christy’s for the weekend. The weekend turned out to be six days long before we accepted a load picking up on the 16th in San Francisco, CA delivering to Sparks, NV the same day. On the 17th we deadheaded to Sunol, CA delivering to Fork River, NJ on the 20th, we were offloaded at 0400; the load was a straight through run.

Donna and I decided to deadhead home from NJ; we hadn't been home in almost two months and needed to take care of a few things. We arrived home around 1400; we backed the truck into the driveway, plugged in the shore power, and had the pleasure of going through two months worth of mail.

We took a week off and still didn't get caught up on some of the personal things we needed to get done. We decided that I would stay home and tend to our personal affairs, while Donna went back on the road solo.

Being home gave me some time to rest my back; it still bothers me after all these months. I also had to make an appointment with my ear doctor, there is one of those ten dollar words they call themselves, but it’s easier to call him an ear doctor. I need a new hearing aid, so I decided to have the doctor give my ears the once over. I was lucky and got in appointment within a few days. At my office visit the doctor thought it would be a good idea to have an audio-gram done. It turned out that my hearing changed very little, but it was just enough of a change to warrant a stronger hearing aid for my left ear.

I managed to get to the gun shop, where I traded a Ruger .22 hornet in for a very nice Savage Model 25 Light Weight Varmint Rifle in .223 caliber.

I did manage to get some of our affairs taken care of, but I still need to do a few more things, including getting a new hearing aid.

I finished the month home, giving out Halloween candy to the rug rats who rang the door bell on the 31st. Blog Author Top of Page Bottom of Page
